Safety First was established in 1993 for the purpose of providing practical solutions for businesses in the area of workplace safety and health. It grew from identifying a gap in the market, in the provision of these services, that benefit both employees and employers alike.

Through creating safe work environments, results have been measurable not only in the reduction of lost time injuries, but in financial terms also (lower compensation claims, lower insurance premiums).

Safety First has grown as a business primarily through word of mouth and referrals from existing clients. As the business has grown, the Safety First Programme which remains a cornerstone of the organisation has remained dynamic and responsive to changes in client needs, the business environment and legislative changes.

Risk Managers and specialists are employed directly and contracted to Safety First to provide a wide range of services and administer the Safety First Programme. In recent years, Safety First has expanded to provide Injury Management systems that supplement the safety programme. Training remains one of the keys to effective workplace health and safety and Safety First provides a wide range of training courses. Safety First is now a Nationally Recognised Training organisation for its Safety Supervisor Training.

Safety First initially targeted businesses and organisations that were unable to employ occupational safety and health professionals. This is changing as the role expands into partnerships with larger businesses, implementing the Safety First Programme in a cost effective way, working with Human Resource Departments.

As a business, Safety First has grown through providing quality services that are founded on a genuine passion to create safe work environments. Great value is placed on the integrity of the Programme to pursue these outcomes. The Safety First Programme fulfils national compliance standards and is therefore recognised by insurers and stakeholders.

The success of the Safety First Programme is evident in tangible results achieved through managing workplace safety and reducing injuries. Safety First collects, collates and analyses the safety data from clients and can illustrate graphically the improvements taking place at a workplace level.
