Course Description

More than half of all back problems are the result of gradual and progressive deterioration in the structures of the back. Given that over 80% of the population suffer back pain at some time in their life, this course is a must for all staff. The "Looking After your Back" course is designed specifically to give individuals the knowledge, skills and techniques to reduce the risk of damage to their back. This course is ideal for staff that do not have lifting as a primary part of their work, and for those that do lift in their job it complements Manual Handling or Manutention training.

Course Objectives

For the participants to gain the skills and knowledge to minimise the risk of injury to their back, and in the event of experiencing back pain, to know how to manage it effectively.

  • The Power Position
  • Principles of lifting
  • Exercises to protect the back
  • Managing back pain

Expected Outcomes

Successful participants will be able to minimise the risk of injury to their back and know how to manage back pain.

This course is for all people, regardless of position or past history of back pain.
